Workshop FAQs

What is a somatic movement?

Somatic movement is a body-based practice focused on internal awareness and your experience of how your body moves. It helps you explore movement, breath, sensation, and presence from the inside out, supporting nervous system regulation, embodiment, and healing.

Who are these workshops for?

These workshops are open to anyone interested in reconnecting with their body, whether you're new to somatic work or already have experience. No prior movement or background is needed and beginners are warmly welcomed.

Do I need to be fit or flexible to take part?

Not at all. These workshops don't require any level of fitness or flexibility. You’re invited to move in ways that feel right for your body, and there is no pressure to take on any positions or activities that cause discomfort or pain. All bodies and all abilities are welcome.

What can I expect during a session?

Each session includes guided movement explorations, breathwork, stillness, and opportunities for reflection. Workshops generally have a different theme each time, such as ‘The Nervous System’ or ‘Body Fluidity’.  Every movement is an invitation, not a requirement, and you’re encouraged to adapt everything to suit your own body and needs. These workshops usually have a short break halfway, but you can take extra time to rest or reflect at any point.

What should I wear or bring?

Please wear comfortable clothes you can move in. A journal and a pen are also useful. Mats and cushions are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own favourites instead. A blanket can also be useful when the weather is colder.

Is this like yoga, dance, or therapy?

It shares some qualities these practices, but it stands as it's own thing. Somatic movement isn’t performance or exercise. It’s a practice of listening to your body and exploring what arises, often with therapeutic effects.

Can this help with stress or trauma?

Yes, many people find somatic movement deeply supportive for releasing tension, grounding the nervous system, and gently processing stuck patterns. For more focused, personal work on your own stress or trauma, one-to-one therapy may be more appropriate.

How long is each workshop? Most workshops run between 1 - 3 hours. Details for each event will be listed in the current workshops section

“In order to change, people need to become aware of their sensations and the way that their bodies interact with the world around them. Physical self-awareness is the first step in releasing the tyranny of the past.”
